Hippodrome Art Film Award 2013

30/09/2013
John's film, entitled 'Pleasure Beach', was made as a site specific work but contains elements of a 'self portrait'. It is a development of a work made for Reading Museum in 2012 as part of a large scale installation. That work was an audio-kinetic sculpture and was also site specific to a room in the museum.
Said John: ''The appearance of a clown is an obvious reference to the Hippodrome's past association with the circus. But the clown also refers to the fun park (Pleasure Beach) in the north of England seaside holiday resort of Blackpool I was taken to as a child. Some viewers will laugh along with the clown, others will recoil. Either way have a fun day out!''
